Carol Ann Patricia (Rusek) Belcher, 62, of RR1, Uniondale, PA., died Thursday night, December 27, 2007 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Wilkes-Barre, PA., following complications from a courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was the wife of Franklin (Jerry) Belcher, Sr. Born November 13, 1945 in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (Navalaney) Rusek.
She was a graduate of Mayfield Schools and the Carbondale Beauty School. She was an active member of the Bethel Congregational at Welsh Hill Church, Uniondale. Her favorite activities were spending time with her grandchildren and traveling with her husband. She spent many years researching the geneology of the Belcher family and their participation in the Gold Rush in the Yukon. She also took great joy in the hours spent tending to her flower beds.
She began her journey home to God peacefully surrounded by her family who will fondly remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all. She will also be deeply missed by her loyal companion Ilsa. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the third and fifth floor staff and doctors at Geisinger Wyoming Valley.
She is survived by one son: Franklin (Butch) Belcher, Jr. and fiancee Amy Hlavaty of Clarks Green, PA.; three daughters: Frances Compton and husband James of Uniondale, PA., Melissa Berish and husband Stephen of Uniondale, PA. and Jennifer Belcher-MacAvoy and partner Susan of Atkinson, NH.; six grandchildren: Nathan, James Jr., Alaney, Katrina, Tess and Samantha; four sisters: Pearl Elrod of Carbondale, PA., Dolores Mascaro of Rochester, NY., Dorothy Trotter of Carbondale, PA. and Mary Ann Miller of Nicholson, PA.; three brothers: Jerry Rusek of Carbondale, PA., Joseph Rusek of Carbondale, PA. and Thomas Rusek of Lenoxville, PA.; Many Nieces Nephews. The funeral was held Monday, December 31, 2007 at 9:30 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Dundaff and Main Streets, Clifford, PA., with services at 11:00 AM in the Bethel Congregational at Welsh Hill Church, Uniondale, with the Rev. Jay Molyneaux, pastor, and Rev. Joseph Sitko, pastor of St. Michaels Church, Simpson, PA., officiating. Interment, South Gibson Cemetery, South Gibson, PA.
