Carmella M. Kernoschak, 77, of Harlem Avenue, Carbondale, PA died Tuesday morning, September 15, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her family after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's.
Born January 11, 1943 in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Rose Giglotti Luparella. She was a 1960 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale.
Carmella was employed by Western Union telegraph in New York City, and Hazel Bishop Cosmetics in Union, NJ, before returning home to Carbondale in 1967, where her husband Thomas obtained a position with Pennsylvania Power and Light. She dedicated her life caring for her children including participating in all of their events and activities. She always had her door open and enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Preceding her in death were five sisters: Phyllis Ruggiero, Antionette Cassaro, Mary Graziano, Palma Palmiero, Eleanor Sirianna; and a half-brother: Dominick Luparella.
Carmella met her husband Thomas when they were in high school. They would have been married 57 years in October.
Surviving are her husband: Thomas M.; two sisters Clara Marsico and Rose Carachilo; a daughter, Kim Zelna and husband, Edwin of Greenfield Twp., PA; two sons: Thomas, Jr. and wife, Kim of Carbondale, PA, and John and wife, Amy of Roaring Brook Twp., PA; seven grandchildren: Tara Corrigan and husband, Ryan, Michael and Adam Zelna, Emma, Benjamin, and Jacob Kernoschak, and Kayla Demshock; and a great granddaughter: Rylee Corrigan; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Allied Hospice and in-home care services along with the caregivers that assisted throughout Carmella's battle with Alzheimer's, especially Judy Borosky and Deanna Bednash.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at noon from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Jeffrey Walsh, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Ed Zelna, Adam Zelna, Michael Zelna, Ryan Corrigan, Michael Pozarycki and Paul Debish, Jr.
Arrangements were entrusted to Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
