Carmel G. Cerra, age 95, formerly of Carbondale, PA., died Tuesday afternoon, December 28, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Marilyn Miley in Tannersville, PA., where she resided for the past two years. She was the wife of the late Angelo J. Cerra, who died January 12, 1997.
Born May 14, 1915 in Old Forge, PA., she was the daughter of the late Giacomo Greco and Theresa (Sirianni) Scandale.
She was a 1933 graduate of Old Forge High School and also graduated from Madame Fenwick Beauty School, Scranton, PA. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the Boy Scouts Auxiliary, both of Carbondale.
She is survived by two daughters: Joan Ross and husband Patrick of Tannersville, PA. and Marilyn Miley and husband Raymond of Tannersville, PA.; one son: John Cerra and wife Christiane of Minneapolis, MN.; five grandchildren: Ashley Ross, Clifford Ross, Jacqueline Predmore, Michael Miley and Alicia Cerra; one great granddaughter: Mia Ross Igneri; one sister: Angela Greco of Clarks Summit, PA.; two brothers: Nicholas Scandale and wife Diane of Clarks Summit, PA. and John Scandale and wife Gloria of Plymouth Meeting, PA.; four sisters-in-law: Evelyn Pettinato, Dorothy Keating, Lucille McDonough and Germaine Cerra, all of Carbondale, PA.; Several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister: Jacqueline Greco; one brother: James Scandale.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, January 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA., celebrated by her nephew, Rev. Russell E. Motsay, pastor. Interment, parish cemetery, Carbondale, PA.
Friends called Monday from 10:00 AM until mass time at the church.
Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were made to VNA Hospice of Monroe County, 502 Independence Road, East Stroudsburg, Pa 18301.
