Obituary

Brenda J. Miller, 57, of Hawley, PA. and formerly of Jermyn, PA., died Thursday evening, July 21, 2011 at the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA., after a short battle with cancer. Born October 3, 1953 in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late Kirt O., Sr. and Dorothy M. (Leas) Miller. She was a 1971 graduate of Lakeland High School where she also played basketball. She earned a bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology at Temple University. She helped run the family farm in Jermyn where she also ran her furniture restoration business The Wood Shed. She has been a cook for the past ten years at the Hawley Diner and was a cherished employee of owners Jim and Carol Swanick. She was a member of the Clifford Baptist Church and the Greenfield Township Historical Society. She enjoyed riding her Harley Davidson Trike and was involved in several local charity bike rides. She was very artistic and enjoyed woodworking, photography, needle point, carpentry, hunting and ice fishing. She was very kind and forgiving and she loved her family and friends, especially her niece and nephews. She is survived by three brothers: Roger Miller and wife Gloria, Keith and Kevin Miller, all of Jermyn, PA.; one niece: Jodie Lowe and husband Ray of Lenox Township, PA.; two nephews: Roger J. Miller and Jason P. Miller and wife Brandi, all of Greenfield Township, PA.; two great nieces: Paige and Madison Miller; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by one brother: Kirt O. Miller, Jr.; one sister: Sharon Miller; her best friend: Dorie Wheeler. A memorial service was held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 3:00 PM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA. Friends called Saturday from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions were sent to VNA Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Lackawanna County, 334 Jefferson Avenue, Scranton, PA. 18503.
