Boyd Clark Manzer, 73, of South Gibson, PA, passed into eternal life Sunday evening, March 13, 2016 following a long battle with Wegener's Granulomatosis.
Born October 21, 1942 in Scranton, PA, son of the late Jeff and Ann Manzer, Boyd was a graduate of Mountain View High School. He obtained his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Scranton and served three (3) years in the U.S. Army, one of those in South Vietnam.
Following his Army tour of duty, he joined Crawford and Company, Atlanta, GA as a claims adjustor. However, his home roots kept calling him to return. Responding to that call he returned to the family homestead where he became a junior partner in the family dairy business, focusing on forage, soils, dairy and farm management. Boyd was an active member of Gibson Grange 709 of the National and State Grange and was a member of the South Gibson United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. Boyd was very active in Boy Scouting, as well as being a former Eagle Scout and member of Order of the Arrow. Shortly after returning to his farming roots, Boyd was selected to join a Five Member Team of Young Business and Professional men on an 8 week visit to Queensland and The Northern Territory of Australia sponsored by the Rotary International District 741, Northeastern Pennsylvania. Boyd's hands-on creativity was on always visible in his floral and greenhouse business. This career ended as his long battle with Wegener's began.
His love of learning and teaching led him to share with others as a substitute teacher at Mountain View High School and then another new career, Tax Collector for Gibson Township. Of all his loves, other than his family and friends, music has been the greatest love of all. Boyd built a pipe organ in his "PIT" scouring the countryside with his very best friend, Father Tom Cappelloni, for the best pipes at the best price.
Many hours were spent in the assembly of and then playing his finished work until it was destroyed in a lighting strike fire.
Boyd and his wife, Jayne, spent 36 wonderful years living and walking their faith journey together. They leave behind their precious daughter, Sarah (Bill Merritt, fianc) South Gibson, PA; two sisters, Linda (Phillip) Hay, Andover, KS and Markie Pratt, Brooklyn, PA, nieces and nephews, Cannice (Dave) Decker, Scott Hay, Kerri (Andy) Ault and Dustin (Rachel) Pratt, as well as grandnieces and nephews. Boyd was preceded in death by his wife, Jayne, his son, T.J. Manzer and his parents, Ann and Jeff Manzer.
