Bernard "Bernie" Scalzo, 72, of Mayfield, PA, died Sunday, June 11, 2017 at home. He is survived by his wife the former Rita Davis.
Born May 2, 1945 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Matilda Monachino Scalzo.
Prior to retirement, he had been employed as a welder for Acker Drill Company in Clarks Summit and was also a former caretaker and grave digger for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Carbondale. He also operated an antiques business for many years. Bernie enjoyed hunting and trap shooting and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He was a cat lover and was especially fond of his cat, Lucky.
He is survived by four children: Christine Scalzo and companion Derrick Bergenstock of Dunmore, PA, Jennifer Scalzo of Simpson, PA, Bernard Scalzo, Jr. and wife Melissa of Mayfield, PA and Gina Scalzo and companion Christopher Gagner of Childs, PA; three grandchildren: Paul Soluri, Anthony Carpenter and Fiora Scalzo; two sisters: Rosina Lloyd of Moscow, PA and Bernice Getzie of Dunmore, PA.
A private Mass of Christian Burial was held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Paul Fontanella, assistant pastor.
Arrangements were entrusted to Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
