Obituary

Bernard J. Cerra, age 81, of 23 Villa Street, Carbondale, died early Saturday morning, April 12 2003 at the Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale, PA after an illness. His wife of 57 years is the former Mary Brady. Born March 22, 1922 in Carbondale, PA. He was the son of the late John and Fernata (Gigliotti) Cerra. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. He was a 1940 graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. Prior to his retirement he was employed for 30 years by National Standard, Carbondale. He was a former member of Marks Golf League, VFW Golf League in Simpson and the Tuesday evening Senior Citizens Golf League. He was a member of the Fell Township Seniors and bowled with National Standard and Archbald Commercial Bowling Leagues. He enjoyed relaxing with his family and friends at his summer home at Cottrell Lake. He is survived by one daughter: Nancy Cerra-Staffaroni and husband Jack Staffaroni of Harrisburg, PA.; one sister: Phyllis Rekus of Carbondale, PA.; one brother: Anthony Cerra of Jacksonville, FL.; one daughter-in-law: Diane Cerra; 3 Grandsons; 2 Granddaughters; 1 Great Granddaughter; Several Nieces Nephews He was preceded in death by one son: Bernard D. Cerra; one brother: Joseph Cerra; and one Grandson The funeral was held Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at 9:00 am from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Rose Of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. William Campbell, assistant pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: David and Christopher Cerra, Matthew and Michael Staffaroni (Grandson's), John Rekus, Joseph Brady, Jimmy Joe Perri and Paul Nepa. Visitation was held Monday, April 14, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9. The Fell Township Golden Age Club met Monday at 2:30 pm at the funeral home.
