Barbara A. Trotta, 71, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA died Saturday afternoon, August 30, 2014 at the Carbondale Nursing and Rehab Center, Carbondale, following a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born November 3, 1942 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Rosella Vadala Piorkowski. She was a 1960 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a seamstress in the local garment industry and had been a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo and traveling to the casinos. She cherished her time spent with her grandchildren and many good friends including Kay Wilce, Mary Getzie, Mary Theresa Ogozaly and Nancy Kilhullen. The family would like to thank the staffs at Dr. Bekele's office, Moses Taylor Hospital, Cancer Treatment Center of America, Geisinger-Wyoming Valley Hospital, Carbondale Nursing Home and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for all of there wonderful care to Barbara. She is survived by one daughter: Roslyn Nolan of Carbondale, PA; two sons: Joseph Cassaro, Jr. and wife Brenda of Carbondale, PA and Jason Althouse of Womelsdorf, PA; five grandchildren: Joshua Nolan, Jayme Nolan, Joseph Cassaro, III., Gabriella Cassaro and Daniel Althouse; one step grandson: Shawn Gordon; nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview & 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Marek Wasilewski, assistant pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Joseph Cassaro, III., Joshua Nolan, Jayme Nolan, Jeffrey Taylor, Joseph Graziano and Serafine Tolerico. Friends called Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 5-8 PM.
