Obituary

Augustine J. Gus Gallo, Sr., 82, of Carbondale, PA., died Saturday afternoon, September 12, 2009 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Wilkes-Barre, PA., after an illness. He was the husband of the late Ann DeFazio Gallo, who died April 29, 2008. Born August 13, 1927 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Frank and Theresa (Costantino) Gallo.He was a lifelong resident of Carbondale and was educated in Carbondale public schools. After graduating, he joined the Navy and served during World War II from 1941 to 1944. After serving in the Navy, he was a self employed plumber until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale.Gus always had a smile on his face and no matter where he went he knew someone, which he recently told his granddaughter was because he was full of charisma. He would do anything for anyone and always did it with pleasure. He had a very close relationship with his family, especially his granddaughters. They were the light of his life. He loved having them around and would do anything he could to spend time with them. New York Yankee baseball and New York Giants football were two of his favorite hobbies. He also enjoyed playing cards and golfing with friends. Every fall, he made homemade red wine and sopersata and graciously gave it away to anyone who asked. Gus also enjoyed fishing on Lake Wallenpaupack and hunting in Pike County at his hunting camp, the Pioneer Rangers. He enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra music and sang it whenever he had the opportunity. He will be missed by so many. He is survived by two sons: Augustine J. Gus Gallo, Jr. of Matamoras, PA. and Frank Gallo of Riverside, CA.; four granddaughters: Angela Phillips and husband Ben, Andrea Gallo-Karosus and husband Chris and Tami Gallo all of Carbondale, PA. and Margaret Ann Gallo of Jermyn, PA.; three great grandchildren: Benjamin Phillips, III., Gianna Rose Gallo and Jeffrey Katchmore; one brother-in-law: Anthony DeFazio of Carbondale, PA; three sister-in-laws: Mary Bonacci of Virginia, Rose Connor of Clifford, PA. and Palma Tolerico of Carbondale, PA.; many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by one sister: Rose Gallo Cawley.The funeral was held Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 8:30 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Russell E. Motsay, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Honorary Pallbearers: Peter DeFazio, Carmine Carney Tolerico, Robert Turano and Anthony Carito. Active Pallbearers: Thomas Cawley, Carmino Bonacci, Frank Carito, Brian Gibbs, Peter Cerra, Benjamin Phillips, Jr., Benjamin Phillips, III. and Chris Karosus. Friends called Tuesday, September 15, 2009 from 4-8 PM.
