Arthur J. Compton, 80, of Lenox Township, PA, died Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Allied Services Hospice, Scranton, PA, following a short illness. He was the husband of the former Geraldine F. Petz, who died October 25, 2018.

Born December 10, 1943 in Fleetville, he was the son of the late Clifford and Mary Ellen Ransom Compton.

Art began his carpentry career at Sears and Roebuck Company and then worked for L.D. Tracy and Son Construction Company, Harford, and Harford Builders before starting his own business, Art Compton Construction. He worked alongside his son and grandson up until his recent illness.

He coached Little League Baseball and softball teams in South Gibson for many years. Art also served the community as a Lenox Township supervisor for 9 years. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and dirt track racing. He enjoyed listening to oldies music, dancing, attending local fairs and was an avid Yankees and Giants fan.

Art was a kind and giving person who instilled hard work and values to his sons at a young age. In business he treated everyone with fair prices at the highest quality work.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Art's companion, Connie Breese for her love, kindness and care for the past few years.

He is survived by two sons: James Compton and wife, Frances of Union Dale, PA, and Dale Compton and wife, Ginger of Lenox Township, PA; five grandchildren: Nathan Belcher, Ashley Sumner and husband, Troy, James Compton, Jr., Dustin Compton and companion, Alicia and Katrina Van Meter and husband Cody; five great grandchildren: Tristan, Rylie, Aidyn and Brixley Van Meter and Oliver Sumner; two brothers: Raymond Compton and wife, Tina of Lenoxville, PA and David Compton and wife, Sandy of Hop Bottom, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Juanita Gray and Mae Eckert; and a brother: Gary Compton.

The funeral was held Monday, December 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA, with Levi Ransom, officiating. Interment, South Harford Cemetery, Harford, PA.

Honorary Pallbearers: Ray and David Compton.

Pallbearers: James Compton, Dale Compton, Jay Compton, Jr., Dustin Compton, Troy Sumner and Nathan Belcher.

Viewing hours were held Sunday, December 1, 2024 from 3-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations were made in Art's name to Traditional Home Health Care, 113 West Drinker Street, Dunmore, PA 18512.
