IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arnold Taylor
Manning
September 6, 1927 – December 2, 2024
Arnold Taylor Manning, 97, passed away December 2, 2024 at his home in South Gibson, PA, the village in which he was born and lived his entire life. He was born September 6, 1927 to the late Richard Taylor Manning and Helen Robinson Manning. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Joyce Frederici, and Dorothy Crawford; and son-in-law, D. Allen Jones.
Arnold was a 1945 graduate of Harford Vocational High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II, which he considered his highest honor. He was a 73-year member, and past Master of Freedom Lodge #328, Thompson, PA. He was a member of the South Gibson United Methodist Church.
Arnold followed in his father's footsteps in the logging business. He loved trees. When illness precluded him from logging, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to build The Shady Rest Campground and Manning Stone Pallets. He also originated or acquired several trucking companies. He loved road trips to see antique cars or sawmills, or check-out heavy equipment. He was keen on managing his maple trees to assure a good supply of sap for his maple syrup hobby.
Arnold was married for 74 years to his beloved wife, the former Mary Alice Decker, who survives. Also surviving are a sister, Faye Steele (Milford, NJ); children: Richard (Faye) of Jacksonville FL, Margaret "Peggy" (Paul) Gleva of Loveland CO, Sandra Jones of Clifford Twp. PA, and Gayle (Jon) Wellborn of Weimar, TX; and six grandchildren: Jennifer (Andy) Flynn, Paul (Gretchen) Jones, David Jones and girlfriend Taylor Motlow, Erika Gleva, Karla (Kary) Korbin, and Kristie (Michael) Allen. He adored his six great-grandchildren: Samuel and Alice Taylor DiBerardinis; Madalyn, Wyatt, Eleanora, and Elizabeth Jones; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
