Anthony C. Humphrey Nicolio, 87, a lifelong resident of Mayfield, PA, died Saturday morning, January 11, 2014 at the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger-CMC Hospital, Scranton, PA.
Born December 6, 1926 in Mayfield, PA, he was the son of the late Augustine and Rose (Matte) Nicolio.
Anthony graduated from Mayfield High School and served in the United States Army. He owned and operated Nicolio Trucking Company, Mayfield along with his brother Jackie and later was the owner and operator of Nicolio Beer Distributor also in Mayfield. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Church, Jermyn, PA, belonged to the Mayfield American Legion Post 610 and was a lifetime member of the William Walker Hose Company, Mayfield. He also had a love of collecting antique cars.
He is survived by a very special nephew and caretaker: Richie Baggetta of Mayfield, PA; two sisters: Parma Baggetta of Mayfield, PA and Irene Romeo of Carbondale, PA; one brother: Jackie Nicolio and wife Barbara of Mayfield, PA; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Angelina Tapyrik and Josephine Telech; two brothers: Carl Savo and Dominick Nicolio; one great nephew: Samuel Baggetta; his long time companion: Rita Mroczka.
The funeral was held Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 9:15 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Church, 622 Madison Avenue, Jermyn, celebrated by Monsignor Dale Rupert, administrator. Interment with military honors, Calvary Cemetery, Mayfield, PA.
Friends called Monday, January 13, 2014 from 5-8 PM.
Pallbearers: Richard Baggetta, Michael Baggetta, Samuel Baggetta, Nick Baggetta, Curtis Nicolio, Glenn Nicolio and Robert Nicolio.
