Anthony N. "Sonny" Leo, 87, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, died Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the Carbondale Nursing Center, Carbondale, after an illness.
Born June 19, 1931 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Christopher and Carmella Gentile Leo.
Sonny worked for several companies in Carbondale, which included the Gillen Coal Company and later retired from Glass Products. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the Moxie Club, both of Carbondale. Sonny was a 1948 graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. He was an avid fisherman and most recently he especially enjoyed spending time with his niece's puppies.
The family would like to thank the staff at both the Carbondale Nursing Center and Home Health Care Professionals Hospice for the kind and compassionate care given to Sonny during his illness.
He is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; a cousin: Madeline Nault of Carbondale, PA.
He was also preceded in death by three sisters: Clara Scavo, Jane Pascoe and Celia McDonnell; a cousin: Mary Ann "Red" Gentile.
The funeral was held Monday, September 17, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnak, assistant pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Thomas Liptak, Paul Roberts, Tyler Liptak and Patrick McDonnell.
