Anthony J. Greto, 84, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, August 18, 2015 at home. His loving wife of 56 years is the former Marie Pettinato. They were married April 11, 1959. Born June 19, 1931 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Satalino) Greto.
Tony was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and Johnson College Scranton, PA, as a Life Member of the Golden Alumni Society. He attended Penn State University, Dunmore, PA, before enlisting in the Marine Corps where he served as a Corporal during the Korean War.
He began his career as a master woodworker and worked at the Mayflower Showcase building cabinets. He then was hired as a sales representative for Curtis Industries, a hardware company based in Cleveland, Ohio. He became District Sales Manager and eventually Regional Sales Manager for the East Coast of the United States. He remained with the company for 35 years prior to his retirement with Curtis.
Tony was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale and was very influential in keeping the church open during its merger with St. Rose of Lima Church. He was also a member of the Carbondale Detachment Marine Corps League where he was a former Commandant, an original member of Carbondale Chapter Unico where he served as past President and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Mayfield, PA, where he was a 4th Degree Knight.
He was an avid New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
He is survived by a son: Michael Greto of Center Valley, PA; twin grandsons: Bryan Greto of Port Charlotte, FL and Matthew Greto of Savannah, GA; two sisters: Mary Gallo of Carbondale, PA and Gloria Repash of California; two brothers-in-law: Anthony Pettinato and wife Hilda and James Pettinato and wife Yvonne and one sister-in-law: Ann Marie Pettinato; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Cathy Greto; a brother: Frank Greto.
The funeral was held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Joseph Sitko. Entombment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Bryan and Matthew Greto, James and Pierre Mancuso, James, Gerard and Luke Pettinato and Christopher Imperiale.
