Anthony J. DeFazio, age 78, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA., died early Monday morning, May 30, 2011 at home following an illness.
Born July 26, 1932 in Carbondale, PA., he was the only son of the late Guy and Angela (Sirianni) DeFazio.
He was a 1950 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and earned a degree in Horticulture from Penn State University. He was a United States Army veteran. His parents owned and operated DeFazio's Greenhouse which was later operated by Tony who opened The Bouquet Shop on Fallbrook Street and was run for many years. He was also employed at Elk Mountain Ski Resort for the past 28 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale and enjoyed working the pizza stand at its yearly feast. He enjoyed gardening and spending time at his summer home in Newton Lake. He was a loving brother and uncle who will be dearly missed by his family.
He is survived by two sisters: Rose Connor of Clifford, PA. and Palma Tolerico of Carbondale, PA.; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters: Mary Bonacci, Teresa Bonacci, Ann Gallo and Philomena Turano.
The funeral was held Friday, June 3, 2011 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale., celebrated by Rev. Russell E. Motsay, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Carmine Tolerico, Gus Gallo, Michael Cicio, Matthew Ryan, Jr., Michael Bonacci, James Bonacci and Robert Turano, all nephews. Friends called Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 4-8 PM.
