Obituary

Anthony A. Catanzaro, Sr. age 90, of 155 Westgate Drive, Carbondale died Saturday, April 13, 2002 at Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale. His wife the former Mary Cerra, died January 6, 1987. He was born March 17, 1912 in Carbondale, PA. He was the son of the late Aurelio and Anna (DeAntonio) Catanzaro. He was a retired Baker. At the age of 16 he started his career with Barbours Bakery in Carbondale. He later worked and retired from the Clarks Summit State Hospital's bakery department after 25 years. Prior to his retirment he was also employed by Litteris Bakery in Dunmore. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale and the Moxie Club, Carbondale. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. An avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed his many trips to Canada. He was always the designated chef because of his culnary talent. He loved to visit his buddies at the Moxie Club as well. His wit and zest for life were only exceeded by his love for family and friends. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Scleroderma Research Foundation 2320 Bath Street Suite 315 Santa Barbara, CA 93105 He is survived by one daughter: Josephine Calafut of Carbondale, PA.; three sons: Anthony Catanzaro Jr. and John Catanzaro both of Carbondale, PA., Joseph Catanzaro of Delaware Water Gap, PA.; three sisters: Lena Mendicino of Carbondale, PA., Angela DeSantis of Baltimore, MD. and Antionette McCann of Danbury, CT.; 6 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; Nieces Nephews He was preceded in death by a daughter: Kathryn Catanzaro, who died February 1, 1985; two brothers: Louis Catanzaro and Joseph Catanzaro; two sisters: Mary Colachino and Rose Rotell The funeral was held Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at 9:00 am from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc. Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with mass at 9:30 am in Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Falbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Paul O. Ogoke, Assistant Pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale and Rev. Mr. Carmine Mendicino of St. Anthonys Church, Dunmore. Interment, Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Twp. PA. Viewing was held Monday, April 15, 2002 from 7-9 and Tuesday, April 16, 2002 from 2-4 7-9.
