Obituary

Anna DeFazio Gallo, 84, of Carbondale, PA., died Tuesday evening, April 29, 2008 at the Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale. She was the wife of Augustine Gus Gallo, Sr. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary August 13th. Born November 5, 1923 in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late Guy and Angela (Sirianni) DeFazio. A lifelong resident of Carbondale, she was educated in Carbondale public schools and was employed in the garment industry for many years. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. Annie loved life and always lived it to the fullest. She adored her husband and continued to act like newlyweds even after all their years of marriage. She loved to spend her summers at Newton Lake, playing with her grandchildren and basking in the sun. When her granddaughters were young, she loved to have sleepovers and play Yahtzee with them. Even though she never let them win, they loved her unconditionally. She was famous for her delicious homemade bread and generously made it for all who asked. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by two sons: Augustine Gus Gallo, Jr. of Matamoras, PA. and Frank Gallo of Riverside, CA.; four granddaughters: Angela Phillips and husband Ben of Carbondale, PA., Andrea Gallo of Carbondale, PA., Tami Gallo of Carbondale, PA. and Margaret Ann Gallo of Jermyn, PA.; three great grandchildren: Gianna Gallo, Benjamin Phillips and Jeffrey Katchmore.; one brother: Anthony DeFazio of Carbondale, PA.; five sisters: Mary Bonacci of Virginia, Theresa Bonacci of Carbondale, PA., Philomena Turano of Carbondale, PA., Rose Connor of Clifford, PA. and Palma Tolerico of Carbondale, PA.; Several Nieces Nephews. The funeral was held Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Russell E. Motsay, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Benjamin Phillips, Jr., Benjamin Phillips, III., Robert Turano, Carmine Tolerico, James Bonacci, Patrick Whittington, Phillip Giglia and Thomas Cawley. Friends called Friday, May 2, 2008 from 5-9 PM.
