Obituary

Angelo A. Mecca, 86, of Carbondale, PA. and formerly of Dunmore, PA., died Saturday morning, September 2, 2006 at the Asera Care Hospice, Peckville, PA. He was the husband of the former Marie Tolerico. They were married June 23, 1951. Born September 16, 1919 in Dunmore, PA., he was the son of the late Joseph and Rosemarie (Mecca) Mecca. He was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 112th Regiment of the 28th Infantry Division in Europe during World War II. He was a member of the Surviving Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge on D-Days invasion of Europe. His outfit was known as the Bloody Bucket. He earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Europe/Africa Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Service Medal, American Defense Medal, D-Day Invasion Medal, Overseas Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Service Medal, Honorable Service Medal, Bayonet and Mortar Expert Badge and the Rifle and Carbine Expert Badge. He was a member of the Albert H. Crane Post 221 American Legion, Carbondale VFW and Chapter 98 DAV. After returning from service in Europe, he worked for the DH Railroad and retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot after 28 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale. He was an avid sports fan and played football for his Army Division while overseas. He loved the Green Bay Packers and the Boston Red Sox. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved sharing his time with all of his family. He also enjoyed his yearly family trips to Atlantic City, NJ. each year. He will be greatly missed by all whos lives he touched. He is survived by two daughters: Rosemarie and husband Robert Pollish of Carbondale, PA. and Diane and husband Paul Lemoncelli of Clarks Summit, PA.; four grandchildren: Michael Motsay of Carbondale, PA., P.J., Joseph and Gina Lemoncelli all of Clarks Summit, PA.; Several Nieces Nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son: Joseph; two sisters: Catherine Grecco and Carmella Ghergo; three brothers: Donato, William and Peter Mecca. The funeral was held Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by the Rev. Russell Motsay, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township. Friends called Monday, September 4, 2006 from 2-4 6-8 PM Pallbearers: Michael Motsay, P.J., Gina and Joseph Lemoncelli, Justine and Robert Pollish, III. all grandchildren; Serafine Tolerico and Joseph Mecca, Newphews. Military honor guard provided by the Carbondale Memorial Honor Guard of Post 4712, Simpson, PA.
