Andrew J. Zurba, 80, died at his home Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at 8:05 AM in Clearwater, Florida, under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast.
Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on August 28, 1926, he served in the U.S. Army during WWII in both the European Pacific theaters. He earned his pilots license thru the GI Bill, soloing in his beloved Stearman aircraft. Afterward, he became an independent plumber working many years in Elizabeth until moving to Carbondale, PA and eventually to Clearwater in 1991(as a snowbird), permanently in 2001. He was an avid shuffleboard player and loved teaching new comers. He and his wife the former Charlotte Jones are members of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church where they met.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte of 3 years; five step-children: Jerry Miles wife Patti of Tonto Basin, AZ, Jim Miles his wife Cheryl of Valdosta, GA., Don Miles his wife Rita of Ossian, IN., Patricia Miles of Indianapolis, IN. and Joan husband Ron Polster of Gloverdale, IN.; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Nadia Vamos of Hyannis, MA. and Natalie Tangowski and husband Henry of Elizabeth NJ.; nieces Kimberly Sandra and nephews Mark Bruce.
He was preceeded in death by his wife of 53 years Romayne (Allen) Zurba; his parents: John and Elizabeth (Demchuk) Zurba; his in-laws: William and Antoinette (Scalzo) Allen.
A memorial mass was held Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 9:30 AM from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA., celebrated by Rev. Russell Motsay, pastor.
Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Arrangements were conducted in Clearwater and Carbondale by his dear friends, Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale PA.
