Obituary

Ana A. Scanlan, 62, of Carbondale, PA, died Friday, May 8, 2020 at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her husband is John Scanlan of Nutley, NJ. Born November 11, 1957 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Guillermo and Carmen Castillo Castro. Ana was a dental hygienist for 25 years and was devoted to the Catholic faith. Her patron saint is the Infant of the Prague. She was very creative, talented, loved arts and crafts, dancing, cooking and had an entrepreneur spirit. She is survived by three children: Deanna Jernick and husband, William of Nutley, NJ, John Scanlan, Jr. and wife, Satchie of Queens, NY and Sabrina Scanlan of Ridgefield Park, NJ; three grandchildren: William Jernick, Jr., Jack Jernick and Deanna Jernick; siblings: Carmen T. Castro of Queens, NY, Norma Castro of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Olga Castro of Brooklyn, NY, Martha Castro of Brooklyn, NY, Wanda Parisi of Massapequa, NY, Cindy Donnelly of Carbondale, PA and Luis Castro of New Haven, CT and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Adalberto and William Castro. Private funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA. Intement will take place on Monday, June 8, 2020 at Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
