Alyce E. Stephens, age 86, of Honesdale, PA., died Wednesday morning, January 16, 2013 at Neighborhood Hospice, West Chester, PA. Her husband of 65 years is Everett Stephens, Jr. They were married in 1947. Born June 24, 1926 in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late William Oswald and Hazel Louise (Belles) Evans. She was a 1945 graduate of Waymart High School and also earned a secretary's degree from Wayne Commercial School in Honesdale. She was the secretary to the principal for 41 years at Wayne Highlands High School before her retirement. She was a long standing member of the Central United Methodist Church, Honesdale and its xyz group. She was an avid reader, animal lover and enjoyed traveling. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandsons. She is survived by three daughters: Cynthia Stephens of Coatesville, PA., Holly Clark and husband Jack of West Chester, PA. and Jill Stephens of Evening Shade, AR.; four grandsons: Cody and Zachary Strasser, both of Hawley, PA. and Stephen and Alex Clark, both of West Chester, PA.; one sister: Marion Andrews of Tucson, AZ.; one brother: David Evans of Leverett, MA. The funeral was held Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA., with Rev. Robert Kazinski, pastor of the Central United Methodist Church, Honesdale, officiating. Interment, Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA. Pallbearers: Stephen Clark, Alex Clark, Cody Strasser and Zachary Strasser - all grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations were sent to Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Drive, Honesdale, PA 18431.
