Alfred E. Mazza, 84, of Carbondale, PA., died Saturday afternoon, March 29, 2014 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA.
Born January 3, 1930 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Angelina Guzzi Mazza.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and later retired after twenty years of combined service with the Navy and Air Force. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a custodian for the Sarasota Florida Public School District. For many years, he resided in Florida, Mississippi and Tennesee. He moved back to Carbondale two years ago to be near his family.
He is survived by one daughter: Anne Siler and husband Stephen of West Seneca, NY; three grandsons: Nicholas, Benjamin and Matthew Siler; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Albert, Anthony, Angelo and Michael Mazza; three sisters: Margaret Angotti, Mary Mazza and Gloria Cerra.
The funeral was held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 10:30 am from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Msgr. David L. Tressler, pastor. Interment with military honors, parish cemetery, Carbondale, PA.
Pallbearers: Stephen Siler, David Cerra, Andrew Cerra and Anthony Mazza. Friends called Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 6-8 PM.
