Alford J. "Big Al" Carpenter, 83, of Carbondale, PA, died Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Carbondale Nursing Center, after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Carmella M. Apostolico.

Born March 10, 1939 in Waymart, PA, he was the son of the late Austin and Lela Frederici Carpenter.

Al Served in the U.S. Air Force and was employed for most of his life as a carpenter. A jack of all trades, there was not a thing he could not fix or repurpose. A devout Catholic, he was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, PA, where he took pride in being a Eucharistic minister and a RICA team leader. He had a profound love of the Lord and took great joy in helping those in need.

He is survived by two children: Al Carpenter, Jr. and Michele Frisbie; six grandchildren: Mark and wife, Leah, Jessica, Lauren, Tyler, Mackenzie and wife, Angelina, and Samantha; four great-grandchildren: Kadin, Kamri, Brock, and Kathryn; two sisters: Romayne Shea and Rosie Packer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by nine siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, January 6, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, PA, concelebrated by Rev. Kevin Miller, pastor of St. Bridget Parish, Friendsville, PA, Rev. Edward Casey, pastor of St. Ann Parish, Shohola, PA, Rev. Arun Lakra, pastor of Ascension Parish, Forest City, PA, and Rev. Joseph Mosley, senior priest at St. Rose of Lima Parish, Carbondale, PA. Interment, Clifford Valley Cemetery, Clifford, PA.

Friends called Friday, January 6, 2022 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the church.
