Obituary

It is with heavy hearts, but also a sense of peace, that we announce the passing of our beloved Alessandro "Sonny" Tuzze, who died Wednesday, April 23, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, the former Florence D. Milewski, on March 8, 2017.

Born March 29, 1931 in Mayfield, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine Naro Tuzze.

Sonny was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. In 1945, he joined the family business, Tuzze Trucking, which was started by his father in 1929. He worked alongside his father and brothers and later cherished seeing the business grow into the third and fourth generations with his son, Joseph, and Joseph's sons.

Sonny was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Cottage Hose Company, Carbondale, American Legion Post 221, Carbondale, and Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Carbondale.

Sonny had unwavering strength and work ethic. No matter where he went, he made many friends, including his friends at Gentex. There was nothing Sonny cherished more than his family. He was a very devoted husband and father. He enjoyed spending his summers with his family at Newton Lake.

He is survived by one son: Joseph Tuzze, and wife, Debra of Newton Lake, PA; two daughters: Mary Carol Adams of Carbondale, PA and Jean Wormuth of Carbondale, PA; nine grandchildren: Joseph Tuzze and wife, Brittany; Vincent Tuzze and wife, Jenna; Alessandro Tuzze and wife, Krissy; James Adams and wife, Francine; Jovanna Perri and husband, Carm; Mariana Brennan; Ashley Loomis and husband, Daryl; Michael Wormuth and wife, Erika; John Wormuth and fiancé, Josephine Bond; 16 great-grandchildren: Joseph and Giovanni Tuzze; Alessandro Tuzze; Dylan and Eva Loomis; Joseph Brennan; Aria, Rosemary, and Gianna Perri; Mason, Tanner, Dustin, and Emma Wormuth; and A.J. Adams, Austin Davis, and Desiree Brook-Mark; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Angelo and Joseph Tuzze, an infant sister, Josephine, and two sons-in-law, Anthony Adams and Douglas Wormuth.

We are deeply grateful for the kindness and support provided by Dr. Matthew Haley, the staff at Regional Hospital of Scranton, the staff at Allied Services Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, and the staff at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
