Agnes M. Ward, 80, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA, died Monday, June 27, 2016 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. Her husband of 57 years, John "Jack" Ward, died on July 10, 2014.
Born December 8, 1935 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gertrude Duffy Coleman.
Agnes was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and worked as a seamstress in a local dress factory while raising her children. She later worked as a cashier at Weis Markets, Carbondale, for many years prior to her retirement.
Known as Nana to everyone, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by all her friends at the YMCA and her cats Chicken and Lilly.
She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale and enjoyed her family trips to the beach, playing games on the computer and her word finds.
She is survived by four daughters: Marylynn Lasavage and husband Stephen and Patricia Dzielak and husband James, all of Carbondale, PA, Karen Muta and husband Michael of Simpson, PA and Jaclyn Liuzzo and husband Sam of Greenfield Township, PA; six grandchildren: Stephen Lasavage and wife Darcy, Laura Lasavage and fiance Joseph Kelly, Christopher Lasavage and fiance Amanda White, Felicia Dzielak, Olivia Liuzzo and Amelia Muta; two great grandchildren: Braylin Lasavage and Quintin Naro; three sisters: Mary Hill and Rita Carden, both of Vestal, NY and Ann McConnell of Archbald, PA; one brother: James Coleman of Carbondale, PA; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Coleman.
The funeral was held Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Andrew Kurovsky, administrator and Deacon Edward Casey. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Stephen Lasavage, Sr., Stephen Lasavage, Jr., Christopher Lasavage, Quintin Naro, Joseph Kelly, Michael Muta, Samuel Liuzzo, James Dzielak and Ray Price. Family and friends called Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 5-8 p.m.
