Adam J. Baron, 87, of Clifford, PA., died Wednesday night, December 1, 2010 at the home of his daughter and son in law in Union Dale, PA. He is survived by his wife the former Pauline Violanti. They were married on April 18, 1959.
Born August 9, 1923 in Pleasant Mount, PA., he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Bavitz) Baron.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a construction worker for Joseph Violanti Trucking, S.J. Groves and Sons Construction of Newburg, NY. and Lane Construction Corporation of Meridian, CT. He and his wife were the former owners of Baron's Hotel in Clifford for 25 years. He was a member of St. John Vianney Parish of Royal and Montdale, PA. and was a third degree Knight of Columbus with the Forest City Council 3506 and a 4th degree Knight of Columbus with the Bishop H.T. Klonowski Assembly 1520 of Carbondale.
He also served as a Clifford Township Supervisor having been elected to three terms. He was a life member of the Clifford Township Volunteer Fire Company and a social member of the Elk Mountain VFW in Lenox, PA.
He is survived by two daughters: Theresa Knowlton of Clarks Summit, PA. and Joyce Belcher and husband Ervin of Union Dale, PA.; four grandchildren: Cody Knowlton and wife Brianna of Glens Falls, NY., Lindsey Knowlton of Union Dale, PA., Andrew Belcher and fiancee Michelle Nagel of Union Dale, PA. and Stephanie Belcher and companion Josh Burns of Union Dale, PA.; two great grandchildren: Tilden Knowlton and Lillian Burns and shortly the arrival of a third great grandchild; three sisters: Eleanor and Sophie Baron both of Forest City, PA. and Mary Ann Anelli of Virginia; two brothers: John Baron of Forest City, PA. and Paul Baron of Rochester, NY.; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers Charles, Michael and Joseph Baron.
The funeral was held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 9:30 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X Church, Route 106, Royal, PA., celebrated by Rev. Michael J. Kirwin, pastor of St. John Vianney Parish of Mondale and Royal, PA., Msgr. Stanley Piorkowski, pastor emeritus of St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City, PA., Rev. Joseph Sitko, pastor of St. Michael's Church, Simpson, PA. and Rev. Richard Cirba, of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston, PA. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Andy Belcher, Ervin Belcher, Cody Knowlton, Fred Knowlton, Joseph Baron and Paul Baron.
Friends called Friday, December 3, 2010 from 5-8-PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were made to the donor's charity of choice.
